Présentation
Hello everyone!
My name is Jenny. I'm American, and I've been living in Geneva since 2018. I teach English at a local language school as well as independently.
I have a Cambridge CELTA qualification and 15 years of experience teaching general and business English to adults and adolescents in Japan, the USA, and Switzerland. Equally important, I love my job! I am passionate about the English language and I love teaching. There are few experiences more satisfying than watching as a once shy student grows into a confident English speaker.
Because my family relocated every year or two during my childhood (by the time I turned 10 years old, I had lived in Alaska, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Hawaii, Japan, and Tennessee), I speak in a neutral/non-regional North American accent. My teaching style is professional, warm and engaging.
Here in Geneva, I work with lawyers and bankers as well as real-estate and media professionals. Though they have diverse professional backgrounds, they have one thing in common: they lack confidence in their ability to communicate effectively in English. They fear making mistakes, not being understood and losing their words. Speaking English, especially at work, becomes associated with negative feelings like anxiety, fear, embarrassment and shame. As a result, they don't speak up and they tend to avoid participating. This, in turn, impacts their overall performance negatively.
The good news is that confidence can be gained. After a through assessment of the client's previous experiences learning English, level of proficiency along with areas of strength and vulnerability, and the kind and quality of language and communicative functions required by their professional role, I create a personalized course of lessons. These classes are designed to be enjoyable, focusing on the communicative skills and language most critical to their current needs. Clients practice and prepare for upcoming projects and assignments in class, allowing them to identify and focus on the vocabulary and language skills most needed for success, to make and learn from their mistakes, and improve delivery.
For clients who have achieved proficiency, I also offer conversation classes designed to increase fluency.
